June 17 2011: Look Who’s Joined The Apple Club Now! (Family Doctor Magazine, c.1964)

Published as an advertisement promoting the eating of apples in a 1964 issue of the magazine Family Doctor (produced by the BMA to explain health issues and give practical advice on child-rearing, elderly care and other – mainly preventative – medical issues to general readers) this was presumably commissioned by an apple marketing board of some kind to tap into the early waves of The Beatles’ success in that year. Intriguingly prefiguring the group’s own adoption of the apple as a logo a few years later, it’s also a useful addition to the small archive of apple-related ephemera and information I’ve been gathering lately: an earlier (and very different) posting on the same subject can be read here.
